Autumn

This delightful young dog is yearning to belong to a hound-savvy and loving family.

Autumn is a 9 month old Treeing Walker Coonhound who loves to go on jogs
and walks and, of course, sniff, sniff, sniff! With true houndish enthusiasm,
Autumn is very food motivated and ready for obedience training.
We think she will be 50 lbs full grown.

An ideal home for Autumn would have a good-sized, extremely well-fenced, a
nd dig-proof yard. She needs lots of exercise and plenty of interaction
with her people throughout the day. She is learning how to be quiet in
her crate and only bays in greeting.

This young girl will make a loving companion to your family,
including children and other dogs. She is not yet tested with cats,
but we think she may be fine with them.

If you love hounds, lively and eager Autumn could be the girl for you!

Bart

Mr. Bart — Look at this face — is a sweet 8 month old puppy who loves
life.

He spent a long time in a very small shelter in a very rural area hoping for a home— everyone loved this pup who spent his days throwing his stuffed toy in the air to pass the long hours away. He deserves a great home and a family that will play toss with him so that he does not have to do it alone anymore.

Bart was rescued and now his foster home is asking that you contact milne7896@comcast.net for
an application and set a time to meet this friendly boy!

He loves all dogs male and female and loves his people and loves to give kisses!

Amber

Two-year old Amber really is a perfect girl. She is calm, super well-behaved, and
doesn’t jump on you.

Amber is very smart and knows the commands for
sit, shake, and down; she takes treats so softly from your fingers. She
is people-oriented and wants to hang out with you. Also, she’s good with cats!

Amber walks well on a leash and loves belly rubs. She appears to be housetrained. You really can’t ask for a better friend or companion. Amber is awesome and would fit well into any family!

f

Zeena

Here’s our Zeena….and we dare you to find a girl with a bigger smile!

She’s a German Shepherd/Husky mix, about one-and-a-half years old. She likes to hike and needs a strong leader. Zeena loves people and is fine with dogs, including her pretty puppies!

Maya

Here’s Maya! Just under two years old, Maya is much more than a pretty face.

This gorgeous, almost-two-year-old girl—who is about 55 lbs. and appears to be a mix of Golden Retriever and Chow Chow—is a bright and enthusiastic learner, and incredibly sweet and loving. She is calm and not destructive in the home, and is an excellent car companion, often even falling asleep on the drive.

She likes to hunt gophers, and so may be a digger.

Maya got off to a rough start in life—two homes and two shelters in her first 18 months—and she is ready for a real commitment this time around.

Maya had a very good cat friend in her former home, but she needs a home with no other dogs. As an only dog, Maya will be a joy to live with. Her reactivity toward other dogs while out on walks is something that can be worked on in training lessons.

She needs a family who is devoted to providing a safe environment and the positive training she needs to blossom into her full potential. She would do well in a home with a large, secure yard and a family who can spend lots of time with her.

In her current foster home, Maya is loving toward both people in the home (male and female). She has to spend a lot of time alone, though, because of other dogs in the home, which is why a longer-term foster family could help if her forever home does not surface right away.

At present, Maya is reactive toward other dogs and some people in uniforms, and has occasionally reacted unpredictably toward random people. It is essential that she find a family who is 100% committed to positive-reinforcement training. Because I feel so strongly about her potential, Maya’s adoption fee of $400 will serve as pre-payment on six private training lessons with me in Marin or southwest Sonoma County.

Kicker and Buddy

These two husky-shepherd-mix puppies are available for adoption NOW!

Here’s……KICKER!

BUDDY….boy!

Chrissy

Chrissy is a total sweetheart. She’s somewhat low-energy, and stays calm even with loud noises, new people, and lots of stimulation. Chrissy is a quick learner and eager to please. She’s quickly learned to sit, lay down, stay, stay back from open doors, get into her crate, and is learning how to walk on a leash well. She’s completely potty trained, and will go to a single spot in the yard if you direct her there.
Chrissy loves to be around people and will lay at her person’s feet, but didn’t make a sound when we tested out leaving her alone for an extended period of time. She likes to be around where the people are, but doesn’t demand a ton of attention, never seems to complain about being bored, and loves hugs/scratches/rubs.

Chrissy seems happiest spending time with the family and doing her training. She has had a great time with doggie visitors (from puppies to a large Husky), who she met politely and became comfortable around quickly. She loves going to the park for a walk and watching other people/dogs go by.

Chrissy is comfortable and happy to be around children. She met them politely, got back when they told her to (even a 3 yr. old), and mainly wanted to be around them. Chrissy could do very well in a variety of home environments. She’s mellow enough for an apartment, quiet enough for a condo, would love a big family home, or even a big piece of land to run around with some animal friends.

Chrissy is excited around cats, and if she will live with them her future family should plan on making a slow, patient, well-supervised introduction. The hound side of her loves small, furry creatures!

Callie

Beagle/Chi Mix

Callie is a friendly, affectionate 20lb beagle/chi mix who was just rescued. She would love a home of her own where she can get lots of cuddles and petting to make up for the lost time when she was scared and alone in the shelter where she ended up as a stray dog to no fault of her own. Callie is a happy, playful young dog, and would love a new family soon! She is a real sweetie.

May 25 Update! We have just discovered that Callie was released from the shelter pregnant. It will be 10-12 weeks before Callie will be available for adoption.

Komet (puppy)

This beautiful boy was rescued two weeks before he was born! The Dog Shack rescue group pulled their mom from the shelter just at the last minute before being euthanized, and placed her with us. The puppies were born Thanksgiving morning and are healthy, loving, playful pups. They have been socialized with other dogs, cats, and children and have good temperaments.

Komet is the last puppy left. He is 7 months old and a real sweetheart. He loves to be with people and gets along well with other dogs. He is a little too interested in chasing foster home cats, so he would do better in a home without cats.

Komet is going to make someone a great dog. Will bark when someone comes in the yard and when the doorbell rings but then quickly becomes the welcoming committee. He deserves a wonderful home.

Philosophy
Dogshack believes that if a little network of kind, dog-loving and dog-competent people would form this kind of safety-net around an animal control facility near you, so many more soulful brown eyes would continue to sparkle with the gift of life, and look at you adoringly! What better reward, for really not so much trouble, as many hands make the work light! If you seriously consider doing this, we will be glad to tell you what we have learned over the past 10 years of fostering and emergency rescue! Of course the same can be done for kitty-cats...or bunnies...or what ever people have decided to breed for pets and then abandon!
